PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION
The procedure is done on an outpatient basis under sedation with local or general anesthesia. A small incision is made under the breast, around the edge of the areola or in the axilla, and the saline or gel implant is inserted under the breast tissue or under the breast tissue and the underlying muscle.
Depending on your body type and breast shape, you may want high profile implants or the traditional round implants. Ask your surgeon which shape is best for you.
RECUPERATION AND HEALING
The patient may go home in a breast strap or non-supportive bra. This helps hold the breast in the correct position. The patient should not wear an under wire bra for 6 weeks.
Initial discomfort is controlled with oral medication. Sutures dissolve within 7-10 days. Light activities can be resumed as tolerated. Aerobic activities can be started in about 3 weeks. You can normally return to a desk job within 3-7 days.
OTHER OPTIONS
An additional procedure that would enhance the result is a Mastopexy (breast lift) if the breasts are hanging or not firm in addition to being small.
NOTE
The specific risks and the suitability of this procedure for a given can be determined only at the time of consultation. All surgical procedures have some degree of risk. Minor complications that do not affect the outcome occur occasionally. Major complications are unusual.
