Botox

WHAT IS BOTOX?

Botox is a non-surgical procedure that works to treat facial wrinkles in the forehead, between the eyes, by the lips, in the "crows feet" and neck bands among other areas. Botulinum toxin, or Botox, works by weakening the muscles of facial expression. Once the resting tone of the treated muscles is weakened, the pull of the muscles relaxes and the overlying skin flattens. By physiologically weakening these muscles, wrinkles are lessened naturally.

WHY USE DR. SALZMAN AND SKIN SPA

Dr. Salzman and our Nurse injectors all have Advanced Injector Training done through the makers of Botox. They are also the only providers in the region to provide the patented Ouchless Needle device which delivers a quick spray of vapocoolant prior to the injection providing immediate numbing to the area that is gone within seconds. The appropriate dilution of Botox and saline is always used making sure your treatment is as effective and long lasting as possible. Their skill and caring nature assure you of the best treatment experience with beautiful lasting results.

HOW IS IT USED

Botox is freshly prepared by mixing it with the appropriate amount of saline. Tiny injections of the material are placed into the small muscles between the brows, in the forehead, upper lip, and at the corners of the eyes causing those specific muscles to halt their function (they are relaxed), thereby improving the appearance of the wrinkles. A series of tiny injections to the muscle are used to deliver the treatment directly into troubled muscles. Discomfort is eliminated by using the patented Ouchless Needle device.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST

Results are seen as early as 1-2 days but look complete at 7 days. This halting of movement is temporary, and the re-injection is necessary within four to six months.

SIDE EFFECTS

Occasionally, the tiny needle may puncture a small blood vessel during the injection and a small black and blue area may develop. Such an area can last 5-10 days and requires makeup to cover. Treated muscles can take up to one week to become paralyzed.

If any of the Botulism toxin reaches a facial muscle not being treated, partial weakness of that muscle may last for several months. (It is for this reason that your are requested not to massage the injected areas for 12 hours following injection.) In the event of an area of unwanted muscle weakness (e.g., a dropping eyelid), the only "treatment" is to wait for the effect of the toxin to wear off in several months.

Botox has been used safely in the treatment of muscular facial spasms for approximately 15 years. There are no known generalized side effects to Botox.
