Lip Enlargement

INDICATIONS

Lips that have lost volume or fullness. A desire for larger size and more full appearance to the lips.

INTENDED RESULTS

A more full and enlarged lip. More visibility of the lip margin. A lip that extends to the corner of the mouth more visibly.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

Hyaluronic acid fillers such as Perlane®, Juvederm™ or Restylane® can be injected into the lip to create fullness and improve the visibility of the natural upper border of the lips. These fillers are placed into the lip with a local anesthesia block of the nerves of the lip. Commonly, this is done in the Skin Spa.

Alternatively, fat can be harvested from elsewhere and added to the lip as a permanent filler substance. Because of the unpredictability of fat survival after transplantation, a secondary touch-up may be necessary several months later to optimize the result.

RECUPERATION AND HEALING

Injection of the lips usually causes some swelling and bruising that may take up to a week to resolve. Fat grafting causes more swelling than fillers. Sensation of the lip is usually unaffected.

OTHER OPTIONS

Additional procedures that may enhance the result include lip lift, chemical peels, Affirm laser, Botox® and carbon dioxide laser resurfacing of the lip lines.
