Nurses Corner

I would like to introduce myself; I am Dr. Salzman's surgical nurse, Kim. One of my many roles is to assist Dr. Salzman in greeting patients at their consult and discussing their surgical goals and expectations to construct. The goal of this step is to ensure that the Dr. can have full insight and make the appropriate surgical plan based on your goals. Typically, we perform an exam and conduct photo imaging in our consults, which is simply another means of communicating that we all have the same goal. After scheduling your surgery, you will then meet with me. As your nurse educator, I go through an extensive pre-operative and post-operative meeting, in which, I will provide you with a booklet that you may refer to if any new questions arise. And of course, I will also be available to assist you with any concerns or questions you may have. If you are having an in office procedure then I will be with you during your procedure to assist the doctor. For hospital surgery, I am not in surgery with you, but I will call you the next day and am available at anytime for you or your family.
Since joining Dr. Salzman's team, I have had the great honor of being a part of our very large successful gel implant research study. Dr. Salzman has implanted gels since they were first brought back to the market in 92, and we are now successful in having two of the studies open for free unrestricted use. We are still working on 10 year studies for a cohesive implant from Europe that only Dr. Salzman can implant in Kentucky. This has been very exciting for me and rewarding to know that my patients can enjoy the benefits of a natural look and feel of a gel implant and know they are medically safe. We want all our patients to feel comfortable to call, or come in if they have questions, concerns or just in need of reassurance.
I have worked with Dr. Salzman over six years now and was a former patient for another six years. Dr. Salzman values his staff and patients, and makes every effort to accommodate their needs. I recently was a patient again when I did a phenol peel. It is sometimes difficult to transition myself from nurse to patient, and so I understand the anxiety that can occur before a procedure. I like to share my experiences with my patients and also give them an opportunity to talk to other patients before and after their surgery.
I like having a connection with my patients and their family, and want all my patients to feel comfortable. Surgery can be a very anxious time and confidence in the Doctor and staff is very important. I feel our office has all the qualities to make your experience a memorable one. Many of our patients return for other services and some just call a few years later to let me know they look great and have a new outlook on life. When my patients are happy, then the nurse is happy and I know I have done my job well.
Lip Rejuvenation - July 29th, 2010

Many women don't like the way there lips look but are afraid of plastic surgery because of the "fish lip" look. We want to assure you that it is possible for your lips to be rejuvenated without looking like cartoon fish!
As we age our skin starts to lose its collagen and elastin which is what makes your skin look full and smooth. As the lips lose volume the lines from muscle movements start to form. Injections such as Botox or Dysport can help relax the lip. These help soften the lines and slightly lift the upper lip but it will not replace the volume. There is usually no down time with this injection but it takes four to seven days to take full effect.
To replace the volume loss we use different lip rejuvenation techniques. We have different Hyaluronic acid fillers we can use to smooth out your lip lines without making your lips larger. Often all it takes is a small amount of filler along the border and the lines are gone. There can be some swelling so it is best to plan to do this when you can stay out of the public eye for a day or two. The results will last six to nine months and you will love your lips again.

I have been an active member of the Society of Plastic Surgical Skin Care Specialist Organization for 12+ years, serving as a mentor for new inductees. The involvement I have with the SPSSCS has given me the unique opportunity to network with my colleague's who also work under the supervision of an on site Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. The SPSSCS goal is to seek, educate and share valuable information pertaining to the advancement of the art and science of plastic surgical skin care.
Why would you seek out an esthetician with these credentials?
- They have the highest level of training and continuing education
- We have hands on experience and guidance gained by being inside the plastic surgery setting
- Enhancement of clinical skills, delivery of safe quality skin care
- Trust
The competence I have acquired and been able to extend to my patients is invaluable, it's made my career exciting and rewarding.
Active members of the Society of Plastic Surgical Skin Care Specialist must be currently employed by or under the direct supervision of a plastic surgeon that is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Members may be nurses, estheticians or physician assistants.

What you should expect from your Nurse Injector
The relationship between the patient and Nurse Injector is one built on trust. My approach is to spend quality time with each patient. This allows me to assess each patients needs but more importantly find out what they hope to accomplish with their treatment. As a Nurse Injector, I am the caregiver as well as a patient advocate. That being said, I feel it is important to educate the patient about the different treatments and together we can make a plan to accomplish their goals. If a treatment you are considering will not deliver the results that you want, I will let you know this and will help you find another option that would better meet your expectations. At Skin Spa by Salzman our goal is complete patient satisfaction.

I would like to introduce myself; I am Kim, Dr. Salzman’s Surgical Nurse and Study Coordinator. My role is to assist Dr. Salzman in consultations, surgeries and with before and after patient care. During your consultation, we will do a complete exam and photo imaging, the exam of course is necessary to be sure you are a good candidate for your procedure interest, and the photo imaging is a wonderful communicating tool. After you schedule your surgery, you will meet with me in a pre-operative appointment. As your nurse educator, I will go through an extensive pre-operative and post-operative instruction and expectation booklet with you. This booklet is yours to keep for reference at home. We will also go over any concerns or questions you may have about your scheduled procedure. After your pre-operative appointment, I want you to feel comfortable in knowing that I am always just a phone call away if any questions or concerns may arise.
