PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION
The procedure can be performed either under sedation with local
anesthesia or under general anesthesia. The superficial layers of
the skin are vaporized by the pulsed laser. The advantage of the
laser is that the depth of treatment is extremely controlled and
predictable.
RECUPERATION AND HEALING
The patient goes home with the treated area covered with a
tape-like bandage to protect the new skin. This bandage is removed
after 1-2 days and replaced with an emollient skin cream.
The treated skin is usually healed within 10-14 days and makeup
may be applied at that time. The redness of the skin fades
gradually over 2-6 months.
There is very little discomfort normally controlled by Extra
Strength Tylenol.
The newly healed skin is very susceptible to sun and should be
protected with sunscreens.
