Are You New to Botox? We’re Not! We’ll Walk You Through an Easy Rejuvenating Treatment!

Botox was first introduced in the early 2000s. At first, people were somewhat skeptical. Providers were a little green around the ears, having only been introduced to this new injectable wrinkle-reducer at the time of its FDA-approval. There may have been a few surprised-looking faces and more than a few jokes about freezing the face in that expression. We’ve come to see that Botox is capable of achieving outstanding results; results that look natural and beautiful without requiring much in terms of investment or downtime. No wonder so many people get Botox injections every year! Here, we walk you through what you can expect when you have your first appointment.

Your Consultation

You cannot and should not get Botox injections without first talking with your provider about your concerns and goals. How else can we determine that Botox is the right approach to reach a successful outcome? Even if you are fairly certain that your wrinkles are a job for Botox, we will begin your appointment with a brief discussion about your medical history and what you wish to achieve. Some of the improvements that Botox can achieve include smoothing frown lines and horizontal forehead lines, reducing crow’s feet, and lifting a drooping brow.

Your Treatment

After we understand your expectations from treatment, we discuss how we can achieve that. It may be Botox alone or Botox with other injectables. In some cases, it’s neither. Remember, as safe and effective as injectables are, they do have limits to how much they can refresh the skin. If injectables are the right solution for you, we can administer treatment immediately.

Botox injections are quick and virtually painless. Many first-time patients worry that their injections will hurt. They don’t. No anesthetic is necessary. A tiny needle is used to administer treatment. If you’ve ever had a tuberculosis test, you know about how small a Botox needle is. During treatment, several injections are given. Each feels like a small, momentary pinch. Within a few minutes, the entire process is complete.

Recovery and Results

One of the reasons Botox is so popular is that it is possible to go right on about your day after your appointment. However, it doesn’t hurt to schedule your first Botox appointment at a time when you don’t have to. You might experience minor swelling and redness around injection points that disappear within an hour or two. You might have these side effects for a little longer. You may also develop a headache or mild body aches. These are all normal side effects. None will take you out, causing you to retreat to bed. The reason some suggest to go home to rest after that first Botox appointment is to see how the body does respond and to do so as comfortably and discreetly as possible.

The results of Botox are evident within about a week. After that time, touch-ups may be scheduled as needed to maintain smooth, youthful skin. Some people schedule touch-ups every 3 months, some every 6. The timing is up to you!
