The Signs of Aging Occur Gradually, Then Suddenly. Here’s How to Address This!

woman are happy with perfect clean healthy skin and beautiful long brown hair. There is a passage from Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises that goes like this:

“How did you go bankrupt?” Bill asked.

“Two ways,” Mike said. “Gradually, then suddenly.”

When we talk with patients about their age-related cosmetic concerns, they often bring them up in a similar context. You may not say to others that your wrinkles were developing gradually and then suddenly. However, what you are very likely to say is something like “I woke up one day and all these wrinkles just seemed to be so prominent!” We say things like our signs of aging “appeared overnight” or in a flash. This is to say that, for a long time, we’re able to ignore the subtler signs of aging. But then one day, we cannot unsee what is reflected back to us in our mirror. The signs of aging come as no surprise. The goal is not to stop them but to know what to do about them when they do occur. At Salzman Cosmetic Surgery & Spa, we’ve got multiple options. Some of them are designed to prolong healthy collagen production so that the signs of aging occur more slowly. Some, like dermal fillers, are intended to correct mild to moderate signs of aging in a way that feels like a luxurious, quick pick-me-up. Here, we’ll discuss more about dermal filler treatment and why you may want to schedule your appointment now.

What are Dermal Fillers?

There are several different types of injectable treatments that are performed today. Not all injectables that are made for wrinkle-reduction fall into the category of dermal fillers. These products, such as Juvederm and Restylane, are wrinkle-reducers and then some. Unlike neuromodulators that soften dynamic wrinkles by targeting muscle tissue, dermal fillers smooth lines and creases by adding volume to deeper layers of the skin. This is beneficial because volume loss is one of the critical biological factors that stimulate the onset of creases like nasolabial folds and marionette lines, as well as jowls, thin lips, and flat cheeks. The fillers we’ve mentioned achieve their beneficial effects by depositing hyaluronic acid into layers of the skin. The particles of hyaluronic acid trap water molecules right where they are needed to contour the designated area. Furthermore, there are several products within these lines that have been specially made to address specific problems. More structural fillers are used in the cheeks and jawline area. Softer fillers may be used around the eyes or on the lips. This allows the provider to achieve the most natural-looking results for each patient. In addition to Juvederm and Restylane, we also perform Radiesse and Sculptra treatments to reduce the signs of aging on the face and hands.

Why People Choose Dermal Fillers

It’s not really enough to say that people choose to get dermal fillers because they want to avoid surgery. In fact, some of our plastic surgery patients love what dermal filler injections do to enhance their surgical results. One of the main benefits that are available with dermal fillers that we can’t find elsewhere is that the treatment achieves immediate results. How gratifying to walk into a facility with lines, creases, and deflation and walk out looking like a younger, more vibrant version of yourself! This is the nature of dermal filler treatment. After the appointment, it is possible to go right back to your normal activities, with the exception of strenuous exercise. Your provider may advise against this as well as excess heat exposure to reduce the risk of exaggerated swelling or redness. However, the point is that you needn’t take time off work or away from normal social engagements to get dermal fillers. It can’t get much easier than that.
