Is Facial Fullness Disrupting Your Look? You Have Options!

We start out with a Y shape, where the upper part of the face is wider and the bottom region narrower, ending at the point of the chin. This entire structure gets turned upside down, literally, as tissues lose firmness with collagen deterioration. The breakdown of fatty tissue in the midface exacerbates this change, resulting in fullness at the jawline and under the chin.

If you’ve experienced facial fullness due to aging, weight changes, or other factors, you know that this cosmetic problem can be tricky. Unlike other parts of the body, the face can’t be worked out to tighten and tone muscles. For those who lean away from surgery, options for correcting facial fullness have been limited. Until now.

Options for Facial Contouring

In our Louisville medical spa, patients have several options they can consider to resolve facial fullness that is aging their face. We will explore them here but also encourage you to schedule a consultation with us. More than choosing a specific technique, it is important to determine which treatment is most appropriate for your given situation.

Kybella

Kybella was a game-changing injectable treatment and is still the only product of its kind. It is based on the fat-destroying effects of deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring substance. Treatment targets fat cells under the chin by inserting small amounts of this acid beneath the skin across the upper neck. Multiple sessions may be necessary to achieve optimal contouring. Kybella can permanently eliminate fat cells. This treatment does not affect the skin.

SkinTyte

This laser treatment is intended for collagen proliferation and skin tightening. It can smooth and redefine the lower face, including the jawline and jowls, by delivering pulses of nonablative broadband light into the dermis. Due to the contraction of collagen and stimulation of new collagen protein, SkinTyte can be an excellent partner for Kybella at achieving profound improvements in the lower face.

Surgery is Still an Option

People are often apprehensive about surgery because they want to avoid general anesthesia and downtime. Our LiteShapeTM laser liposuction procedure needs neither. The procedure is performed in the office using a local anesthetic administered under the skin. The laser energy heats tissue to liquefy fat cells so they can be easily extracted using a small cannula. This tiny tube is so narrow that incision scars are barely noticeable. Patients do need to wear a compression garment for 2 weeks post-op but can typically resume normal activities within a few days.
