Rapid Tattoo Removal in Louisville, Lexington, Kentucky

Want your tattoo removed faster and a less painful process? We have the answer with the new PFD patch in our Rapid Tattoo Removal!

In the last 10 years, there has been a significant rise in the number of patients coming to clinicians with undesirable tattoos. The rising social popularity of tattoos and their greater societal acceptability have led to this increase in the prevalence of tattoos amongst the general public.

Tattoo removal with nanosecond Q-switched lasers has been the mainstay for tattoo removal over the last decade. The limiting factor in tattoo removal relates to the tattoo pigment being able to absorb the laser light so it breaks apart into smaller pieces, which can be removed by the normal metabolic pathways of the body. Once the tattoo is treated, the area of the tattoo has to heal before another application of laser can be done. This has made tattoo removal a slow process with many treatments, 4 to 6 weeks apart necessary to completely erase the tattoo. Also, different pigment colors are more responsive to different laser wavelengths.

In our office, we use Astanza Q-switched neodymium YAG lasers, as well as Q-switched nanosecond Ruby lasers. Using these three different wavelengths, we can treat ALL of the different colors in tattoo pigment effectively. It still took between 6 and 10 treatments that are spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart to complete tattoo resolution, until now.

We have started using a new method that involves the placement of a specialized liquid called perfluorodecalin (PFD) that’s embedded into a transparent silicone-based patch and placed over the tattoo prior to treatment. We call this Rapid Tattoo Removal.

Because the reaction of laser light with pigment causes a micro bubble in the skin, turning the area to a whitish color, no further treatment can be done until that white color dissipates. This could take hours to happen. Using this special PFD patch, we can treat multiple times at 3 to 5 minute intervals on the same treatment day! It also makes the treatment more tolerable!

We can also use higher energy levels when treated through the patch, erasing your tattoo sooner. As the treated area heals quicker, we can do the treatments sooner, only two or three weeks apart instead of the six to eight.

At Skin Spa by Salzman, more treatments, at higher energy levels, with shorter time intervals equals a very Rapid Tattoo Removal!  For more information regarding laser tattoo removal or any other laser treatments, visit our Laser Treatments home page.
