A Mommy Makeover uses a customized combination of procedures to change the ratios of the bust-line and waist-line, as well as also provide a flatter tummy. It may include a Breast Lift, Augmentation, or Reduction (any asymmetry will be corrected), along with a Tummy Tuck and/or Liposuction. Each patient has different needs and is looking for lasting results. Dr. Salzman will create a procedure plan that best suits the needs of the individual patient, so her particular goals are met.
The makeover is performed under anesthesia in an outpatient surgery center with a possible 23-hour stay. A Tummy Tuck will remove excess skin and tighten the muscle tissue in the abdomen area. Liposuction is included to remove unwanted abdominal fat. Areas treated may include the center of the abdomen, or can extend to the entire area between the lower rib cage and pubic bone, as well as the sides and back. This is determined by how much extra skin and excess fat the patient has.
The Breast Lift provides an elevated, more youthful breast contour. The nipple-areola complexes are brought to the desired size and height. Excess skin is removed and the breast is reshaped. Implants may be used to add volume and size, or excess tissue can be removed if breasts are too large. Dr. Salzman may even suggest a Breast Reduction based on the patient’s goals.
Dr. Salzman works very hard to hide the scars from these procedures in the pubic area and underneath the breast fold. Other incisions are more visible. These will fade over time.
Recuperation and Healing
Patients are not required to stay overnight, but if a patient chooses to, it can be arranged easily. Tummy Tucks are now a more easily-tolerated procedure because Dr. Salzman uses a Pain Pump. This device is a small catheter that distributes numbing medication at the site of the incision. Light activity is comfortable in 2-3 weeks.
With a Breast Lift, Breast Augmentation, or Breast Reduction, patients can go home with their breasts wrapped. This dressing can be removed the following day, and the patient can shower or bathe. Initial discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication. Light activity can be resumed in 7-10 days. Sports can resume in about 6 weeks.
