MOMMY MAKEOVER IN LOUISVILLE, LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY
Pregnancy and motherhood change a woman’s life completely. These changes begin during pregnancy, when physical growth affects numerous areas of the body. When a woman is pregnant, her weight gain will increase breast and belly size. The body does not reserve weight-gain for only pregnancy-related areas, either. The thighs or buttocks or arms may also enlarge during pregnancy. After childbirth, breasts expand even more as lactation begins. Once breastfeeding has stopped, the breasts then deflate. Sometimes, volume loss decreases breasts to a smaller size than they were before pregnancy. Deflation also leads to a saggy appearance.
As a woman expects, her abdominal area will grow substantially during pregnancy. The progression of fetal growth is often demonstrated by a continual enlargement of the belly. To enable this expansion, the body produces hormones that ease the tightness of ligaments and other elastic tissue. While necessary, this stretching can result in permanent laxity in abdominal muscle and skin.
The changes that occur during motherhood, from pregnancy onward, are not limited to the breast and abdomen. A Mommy Makeover may be the ideal method of observing and correcting permanent changes, bringing the body back into proportion from top to bottom and front to back.
What is a mommy makeover?
Mommy Makeover is the term that is usually used to describe a combination of breast and body contouring. However, we like to think of a Mommy Makeover as a customized treatment plan that addresses multiple areas to give a woman the appearance that she would like. A Mommy Makeover doesn’t necessarily have to give you back the body you had before you became a mother; it can give you the complete appearance you’ve always wanted. Furthermore, we shouldn’t discriminate here; a Mommy Makeover can apply to any woman who would like to improve her overall look with a precise combination of procedures!

What Our Patients Have to Say
Candidates for Mommy Makeover Surgery
Most women who are in good physical and emotional health make excellent candidates for the combination of surgical procedures typically involved in a makeover protocol. During your first appointment with us, we will spend time talking about your medical history and discussing your concerns and desired outcome from treatment. A brief physical exam will be conducted to evaluate your skin and tissue, as well.
Benefits of Multiple Procedures at Once
One of the benefits of a Mommy Makeover is that you can combine several different procedures into one surgical process. In doing so, you incur cost-savings, a shorter recovery, and a true makeover experience. Were surgeries to be conducted separately, fees for anesthesia, the doctor’s time, the surgical center, and for post-op prescriptions would be duplicated. Each individual surgery would incur a recovery time of a few days to a few weeks. Finally, the results of each would be satisfactory but not to the extent of a multi-layered process. A Mommy Makeover gives you that Wow Factor.

How long should I wait after giving birth to have a mommy makeover?
The body needs time to stabilize after childbirth. Mommy Makeover surgery is not recommended for women who are still lactating. Additionally, it is beneficial to lose the weight you wish to lose before scheduling a Mommy Makeover. Further weight loss after breast and body procedures could diminish results. Cosmetic surgery is an exciting endeavor. However, surgery is naturally a stressor. Many patients experience “highs and lows” after their Mommy Makeover. For this reason, we recommend that issues like postpartum depression be well under control before scheduling surgery.
Should I consider mommy makeover if I'm still having children?
It is possible to undergo a Mommy Makeover if you intend to have more children. However, we do not recommend this. Pregnancy after breast and body procedures may very well diminish what has been accomplished in the initial combination of procedures, leading to a desire for revisional surgeries.
Recovery after Mommy Makeover
Combining procedures is an excellent option for women who don’t have a lot of time to repeat recovery periods. After a Mommy Makeover, you can expect to resume normal activities approximately 2 weeks into your post-surgical period. Exercise and more strenuous activity, including lifting heavy objects (your toddler or car seat might count, here!) need to be postponed until about 6 weeks post-surgery. Patients undergoing a Mommy Makeover are advised to arrange a strong and reliable support team that will manage household duties, cooking, and childcare for at least two weeks. This facilitates the amount of rest most women need to recover as quickly and fully as possible.
Risks of Mommy Makeover
Cosmetic procedures carry the same risks as all surgeries, including bleeding and infection. There may also be a risk for blood clots in the legs related to a short period of inactivity. Additional risks to discuss with your doctor include hematoma, fluid accumulation, poor wound healing, and asymmetry. Many articles list numerous risks for surgical procedures. Not every risk applies to every patient. Dr. Salzman is a board-certified plastic surgeon who has been conducting surgery in Louisville for more than 25 years. His training and experience center around procedures commonly involved in Mommy Makeover treatment.
