There’s A Fat Removal Procedure For You

While liposuction changed the plastic surgery procedure game when it first emerged as an effective fat removal technique, it seems like there are now a vast amount of liposuction and fat removal options on the market. This can be overwhelming if you’re struggling to lose pockets of fat and don’t know where to start. But don’t worry— whether it’s invasive, non-invasive, or somewhere in between, there’s a fat removal or liposuction option out there to suit your problem areas and aesthetic goals.

Traditional Liposuction

Why mess with a good thing? Traditional liposuction still works to effectively remove fat from areas that can be difficult to tone through diet and exercise. Although it’s performed under anesthesia and requires downtime, this technique can be most beneficial to patients with a higher amount of fat to be removed. This procedure also offers the great potential for fat transfer procedures, like a Brazilian Butt Lift.

Vaser Liposuction

This procedure adds an extra step to traditional liposuction in order to create an effective, gentler, and less-invasive procedure. It uses ultrasound energy that “shakes” the individual cells loose, optimizing them for removal with a smaller cannula than the kind used in a traditional procedure. This means less bruising, easier fat removal, and an added benefit of skin tightening all at once. This fat has also been shown to be excellent for fat grafting to face, body and breast.  Vaser Liposuction surgery is constantly growing in popularity.

Liteshape™ Laser Liposuction

Liteshape laser liposuction procedure also has the benefit of skin tightening, and is most common for post-pregnancy patients looking to get rid of small to moderate pockets of fat with loose skin overlying. This procedure uses a handheld laser to melt fat that is then removed through a cannula. Another laser is then applied at a customized wavelength that effectively tightens the surrounding skin. This procedure is done under a local anesthetic with either oral sedation or nitrous oxide (laughing gas).  One requires multiple treatments in order to get best results, usually spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

CoolSculpting®

Arguably becoming one of the most popular non-invasive fat removal techniques currently available, CoolSculpting uses an external applicator that essentially freezes fat cells so that they slowly die over several months and are absorbed into the body through normal metabolic pathways.

Radio Frequency Treatments

Radio waves might not be the first thing you associate with fat removal, but both Exilis and Vanquish™ use monopolar and multipolar radio frequencies (radio waves) respectively to create heat that causes the fat deposits within the cells to be released. These are both highly-effective, non-invasive, and even relaxing procedures that give great fat removal and skin tightening results.

Kybella®

Kybella is an injectable form a natural bile salt used in the body to dissolve fat in the digestive tract. It can be injected into small areas such as the neck or knees to slowly melt the fat in that area. A sequence of treatments a month to 6 weeks apart are usually necessary.

It might still seem like there are an overwhelming amount of fat removal techniques to choose from, but a consultation with Dr. Salzman can help you determine the best treatment plan for your unique anatomy and aesthetic goals. Contact our office at 502-425-5200 to get started.
