Permanently and Safely Remove Fullness Below Your Jawline

Attractive young model with tan make up Many dermal treatments and injectables help to slow the effects of aging by reducing or eliminating the appearance of aging on the front of your face. However, as successful as these treatments are, many people are still left with extra fat and fullness below the jawline.

Too much volume in this stubborn area is called submental fullness and can create the appearance of a double chin. There are injectable treatments that can help reduce this appearance. However, the results may take a while and may not last as long as you would like.

LiteShape Lipo is a treatment option that safely and permanently removes the fat and fullness in this area and provides results you can see nearly right after the procedure. Although it is considered a slightly more invasive treatment than other injectable methods, it still only requires local anesthesia, and there is much less recovery than that with other more intensive cosmetic surgeries.

Using a tiny fiber that is inserted below the chin, Dr. Salzman uses the LiteShape Lipo system to safely and permanently remove the fat in this area, with much less risk than other procedures. The first step in this process is using a very focused light energy to liquefy the fat and make it much easier to remove through the small tube.

After the desired fat is removed, a second form of light energy is emitted, which helps stimulate the healing process and boost your body’s natural production of collagen. This helps to tighten the skin in the area and reduce the appearance of sagging skin from the loss of volume.

The entire procedure takes less than 90 minutes, and since it is performed using local anesthesia, you can go home right after. There may be some tenderness and bruising in the area, but these will subside over the two weeks following the procedure. You will begin to see the results around 7 days after the procedures, with the final results coming around three months after.

Why Choose Emsculpt®?

There are a lot of options when it comes to non-surgical body sculpting because many patients are finding great results. Emsculpt is the latest technology in this category to hit the market, but you should know what makes it different from other options like CoolSculpting® or Vanquish™, and why you should be sure to ask about it at your body sculpting consultation.

Build muscle while you lose fat

Although many other body sculpting treatments are effective at reducing stubborn fat in areas of the body that are prone to it, Emsculpt has an added benefit. This procedure uses electromagnetic energy to induce contractions in the muscle (similar to a workout) beyond what the muscle can achieve on its own. This not only burns fat but also forces the muscle to remodel itself to adapt to the contraction. With a few treatment sessions, you’ll notice an improvement in overall muscle tone and contours.

Augment your diet and exercise results

Emsculpt is a great option if you’re already working on slimming down and achieving the body you’ve always wanted because it can speed up your results and give you the progress you’ve been looking for. Emsculpt can also be a great way to jumpstart a new diet and exercise regimen if you’re looking to improve your body’s tone if it’s already at or near your ideal weight. You can still work towards your great results without downtime or recovery from a surgical procedure.

Use it along with other body sculpting procedures

Fortunately, you’ve got plenty of options when it comes to pairing your Emsculpt treatments with another non-surgical body sculpting procedure. Whether it’s CoolSculpting, Vanquish, or Exilis, you can plan your treatment plan with the help of our expert aestheticians to get the best results from these treatments. Although treatments like CoolSculpting might be spaced further apart than Emsculpt, you’ll find great results over a wider amount of time as you continue your diet and exercise regimen.

We’re proud to offer Emsculpt as an effective option for patients looking to achieve the body they’ve worked hard for. To learn more about this new technology, contact our office and schedule a consultation with our expert aesthetic staff who can begin planning the right body sculpting treatment plan for you.

Vanquish™ is Your Liposuction Alternative

If you’ve been looking at your options for fat reduction, then you know that there is a dizzying selection of options. However, there’s no need to undergo a surgical, invasive procedure if you don’t want or are unable to. There are many different non-invasive fat reduction techniques and Vanquish might be the solution for you.

Vanquish Destroys Fat Cells Without the Hassle

While some non-invasive fat removal treatments require a handpiece or technology applied to the skin, Vanquish takes it one step further and requires no contact. It works by applying focused, multipolar radio-frequency transmitters to the fatty areas, which heats the fat cells. This causes them to release their fatty contents, which are gradually absorbed by the body as waste. This means your results only get better over time.

Vanquish Produces Effective Stomach Fat Removal

Vanquish is most effective in the fatty areas around the stomach, where most people carry a little extra fat. The best candidates for Vanquish are those that are at or near their ideal body mass index— more drastic results can require a minimally-invasive procedure like Liposuction or its laser-assisted variants. The best way to determine which procedure is best for you is through a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon in Louisville.

Vanquish Requires a Quick and Easy Treatment Session

Although the treatment might sound painful or high-tech, Vanquish treatments can be very relaxing and tolerable. Patients usually lay on a table while the RF transmitters go to work on stomach fat, causing a warming sensation which can be adjusted if it becomes too hot. These sessions are usually grouped together in a series of 4 to 6, spaced a week or two apart. You can also speak to your aesthetician about combining Vanquish with non-invasive skin-tightening options.

To learn more about Vanquish and create your treatment plan, contact our office and schedule your consultation, during which you can discuss your options with Vanquish and our other laser treatments.

EMSculpt®: Your Complete Body Sculpting Solution

If you’ve heard of non-invasive fat removal or have even undergone a few treatments, then you should know about EMSculpt. This groundbreaking procedure can be your next step or your finishing touch as the only non-invasive fat removal procedure that also builds muscle at the same time. Interested in EMSculpt? Here’s what you should know.

How Does it Work?

This procedure uses High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic technology to induce muscle contractions beyond what the body can achieve on its own. This causes the muscles to remodel their structure by building mass and burning fat. This is different from other body sculpting procedures that might use heat or cooling to destroy fat cells without the benefit of muscle toning. EMSculpt can also be used as a non-invasive butt lift technique.

Who is a Candidate?

Unlike other body sculpting procedures, EMSculpt exists for patients interested in putting the finishing touch on their body. If you’re working hard to slim down and want to see more definition or muscle tone, EMSculpt can help you get there. Generally, patients with less than an inch of pinchable fat find best results with EMSculpt.

What is the Treatment Like?

Although it might sound extreme, EMSculpt is not painful and instead feels like an intense workout, although you can rest and relax while the treatment happens— which only requires a 30-minute session to be effective. These are usually spaced 2-3 days apart to allow the body time to rest and recover. This treatment can even be tailored to your specific needs and can be repeated as many times as necessary.

What About Recovery and Results?

Because EMSculpt is non-invasive, there’s no downtime like a surgical procedure would require. That means you can get right back to your busy schedule and don’t need to prepare or take any post-care steps. Most patients see and feel real results right after treatment, with their results improving over the course of a few weeks after.

If you’re interested in learning more about EMSculpt and want to schedule your consultation, contact our office and speak with our skilled and experienced aestheticians to create your EMSculpt treatment plan.

There’s A Fat Removal Procedure For You

While liposuction changed the plastic surgery procedure game when it first emerged as an effective fat removal technique, it seems like there are now a vast amount of liposuction and fat removal options on the market. This can be overwhelming if you’re struggling to lose pockets of fat and don’t know where to start. But don’t worry— whether it’s invasive, non-invasive, or somewhere in between, there’s a fat removal or liposuction option out there to suit your problem areas and aesthetic goals.

Traditional Liposuction

Why mess with a good thing? Traditional liposuction still works to effectively remove fat from areas that can be difficult to tone through diet and exercise. Although it’s performed under anesthesia and requires downtime, this technique can be most beneficial to patients with a higher amount of fat to be removed. This procedure also offers the great potential for fat transfer procedures, like a Brazilian Butt Lift.

Vaser Liposuction

This procedure adds an extra step to traditional liposuction in order to create an effective, gentler, and less-invasive procedure. It uses ultrasound energy that “shakes” the individual cells loose, optimizing them for removal with a smaller cannula than the kind used in a traditional procedure. This means less bruising, easier fat removal, and an added benefit of skin tightening all at once. This fat has also been shown to be excellent for fat grafting to face, body and breast.  Vaser Liposuction surgery is constantly growing in popularity.

Liteshape™ Laser Liposuction

Liteshape laser liposuction procedure also has the benefit of skin tightening, and is most common for post-pregnancy patients looking to get rid of small to moderate pockets of fat with loose skin overlying. This procedure uses a handheld laser to melt fat that is then removed through a cannula. Another laser is then applied at a customized wavelength that effectively tightens the surrounding skin. This procedure is done under a local anesthetic with either oral sedation or nitrous oxide (laughing gas).  One requires multiple treatments in order to get best results, usually spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

Arguably becoming one of the most popular non-invasive fat removal techniques currently available, CoolSculpting uses an external applicator that essentially freezes fat cells so that they slowly die over several months and are absorbed into the body through normal metabolic pathways.

Radio Frequency Treatments

Radio waves might not be the first thing you associate with fat removal, but both Exilis and Vanquish™ use monopolar and multipolar radio frequencies (radio waves) respectively to create heat that causes the fat deposits within the cells to be released. These are both highly-effective, non-invasive, and even relaxing procedures that give great fat removal and skin tightening results.

Kybella is an injectable form a natural bile salt used in the body to dissolve fat in the digestive tract. It can be injected into small areas such as the neck or knees to slowly melt the fat in that area. A sequence of treatments a month to 6 weeks apart are usually necessary.

It might still seem like there are an overwhelming amount of fat removal techniques to choose from, but a consultation with Dr. Salzman can help you determine the best treatment plan for your unique anatomy and aesthetic goals. Contact our office at 502-425-5200 to get started.

Liteshape Training Goes Worldwide

Last Friday we had the honor of training plastic surgeons from Japan in the use of lasers for improving the outcomes of liposuction. We developed most of the protocols for safe and effective laser lipolysis that are now used by physicians from around the world. This advanced method of body contouring improves the contour of the body by not only removing unwanted fat but also tightening the overlying skin. It has become an alternative for many of our patients who would like to avoid a general anesthetic and have a single procedure done in an office setting that will produce consistent pleasant outcomes. Like any get together with the Japanese of course there was lots of picture taking so I thought I would include one.

Last week, at the dinner honoring the graduating plastic surgery residents at the University of Louisville, I was honored with an award as having the outstanding lecture series in Cosmetic Surgery. As an actively involved Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery at U of L, I regularly give the residents and faculty a lecture about the various topics that encompass aesthetic plastic surgery. I still very much enjoy teaching and find it challenging to continually update the cosmetic surgery realm. I also teach other plastic surgeons my unique methods that I have developed. Recently, we have had physicians from Minnesota and Texas in the office to learn about the Liteshape™ technique of liposculpture. It is a great feeling to see physicians at our national meetings, years after they have finished their training, come up and say, “Thank you again for all that you did to help me become a better plastic surgeon.” My deal with them is: I will show you all that I know, move far from Louisville and take me to dinner when the meeting is in your town. I’ve had a few good meals to date.
